FORMULATION

1. BEAUTY BRAND ESSENCE EXTRACTION

Essence Extraction is the foundation of our cosmetic development process.  It is where we look for the point or points of difference and clarify the essence – the story – of your natural product.  It is here that we explore the cosmetic claims of your product.  We will take a look at the feasibility of your product in terms of natural and organic ingredients.  We will then clarify and estimate cost, all while keeping your budget in mind.  If what you envisioned is not feasible for any reason, you will be notified.

For those clients who are still in the initial stages of conceptualizing their idea or brief, or for those who are still in the stage of market research, we offer a basic costing service.  This service provides you with the cost at each phase, including development, packaging, manufacturing and raw materials.  This service will provide the information that will help you determine if you have a viable idea.

Certification – At this stage it is also important to decide if any organic certifications are required.  If it is determined that certification is required, the next step is determining which certification body would be most appropriate for your product and target market. Decisions regarding certification are important at this stage because it will have an impact on which ingredients are being used in your product.  There are two main natural/organic cosmetic certification bodies in Europe at the moment: Cosmos Standard and Nature.

2. DESIGN

Your next step at this point is to have your vision and brief defined.  Your green ingredients policy should be clear and your budget set.  Once that is completed, we will begin the search for the cosmetic ingredients, both the “hero” ingredients as well as the “structural” ingredients.  A product justification is then produced and discussed with the client before moving on to the phase of sample production.  It is at this time that we recommend that you choose the packaging.  Packaging is important as it can impact product development and formulation (i.e. liquid product that can be packaged in a pump vs. cream product that can be packaged in a jar.

3. COSMETIC DEVELOPMENT

Cosmetic development is usually a five month process.  At times it can take longer, depending on the product/product type, size of the project, and if the brief needs adjustment during development.  Depending on the circumstances, it may be possible to complete development in a shorter time. We can also provide large sample sizes to allow you to evaluate your product more extensively and directly to your target market.

4. APPROVAL

Once you are satisfied with your product, the sample will be “signed off” on and approved.  We will then test the formulation for stability, pack compatibility (initial screening is done in house during development), and microbiological safety tests (done by independent laboratories).

5. STABILITY & PRODUCT INFORMATION DOCUMENTS

Once all tests have been passed successfully, Product Information Documents will be prepared in collaboration with a qualified, experienced and independent professional to ensure conformity with Compliance Regulatory Requirements.

6. CONTRACT MANUFACTURER MATCHING

One of the key advantages of owning your own cosmetic formula is the freedom to choose the best manufacturing partner to suit your needs, allowing you to grow your brand with flexibility and long term strategy.

We work with a wide range of cosmetic manufacturers worldwide. We will help you identify the one that is the most suitable for you in terms of manufacturing volumes and product expertise.  We will also assist in the transition from lab scale to industrial scale production.
